Home Mooring Felixstowe Ferry

Andromeda is moored on a swinging mooring at the entrance to the River Deben (Felixstowe Ferry) in Suffolk. For me this is an ideal location to head out over the Deben Bar and explore the East Coast Rivers and further afield.

As a member of Felixstowe Ferry Sailing Club, there is access to the facilities offered by membership including use of the clubhouse, showers, club trips, parking, boat storage etc. (Visiting Yachtsmen/women are welcome)

The moorings are also adjacent to Felixstowe Ferry Boatyard, which offers winter storage and associated services.

The River Deben stretches 34 miles from it's entrance at Felixstowe Ferry towards Debenham, though it is only navigable up river to Melton for yachts. Being located on the river allows sailing pretty much whatever the weather, even if it's unpleasant out at sea.

Heading out to sea, you first negotiate the Deben Bar. It does have a reputation, particularly in stronger onshore winds; with the depth of water over the Bar at LW of less the 1m. However, HW-3hrs - HW+2 hours safe passage is available subject to heeding the notes provided by the harbour master John White and assistant harbour master Steve Read. Deben Estuary Pilot.

A good view of the River Deben Bar can be seen in the video, kindly shot by John Ranson and 'Mavis the Mavic'.
